CPT Policies at HU

For I-20 transfer students, CPT-authorized internships can begin on the first day of classes, ensuring a seamless, year-round transition with no restrictions based on start dates.

There are 3 semesters in a year for Day 1 CPT Programs at Harrisburg University: Fall, Spring, and Summer.

In each semester, international students must register for at least 2 courses (6 credits; including one online course and one hybrid course)

F-1 visa students are required to start CPT internship on the first day of the first semester (Day-1 CPT full-time job).

  • Students who have not received a master's degree before being admitted to HU are recommended to work full-time for no more than 364 days (in a given calendar year) under CPT authorization. This would enable them to apply for OPT (12 months) and OPT Extension (24 months) after graduation; otherwise, such students cannot apply for OPT Extension from their master's program.
  • The CPT internship must be related to the student's area of study: One can work full-time (21-40 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours or fewer per week).
  • Once the employer completes the CPT verification form and sends the offer letter to the International Student Office, the school will send students the I-20 with employer information after the offer letter has been approved.
  • If a student registers for courses for the next semester in advance, the CPT authorization will be extended to the beginning of the next semester. It will cover the gap between two semesters and allow the students to work full-time legally.
  • Onsite frequency: 2/Semester (each onsite session is one Saturday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

*Harrisburg has a very straight on-site requirement. 100% attendance is required to be qualified for CPT application.
Campbellsville University, in accordance with USCIS regulations, grants CPT work authorization to students. Typically, international students need to be enrolled for over a year before they can apply for CPT.

Due to program requirements, students in the MSITM and PMBA programs can apply for CPT authorization starting from their first semester and engage in either full-time or part-time work. The MSCS, MSCC, and MSDSAI programs allow students who have already obtained a Master's degree in the US to apply for CPT authorization from their first semester for either full-time or part-time work.

Students in these five programs can continuously apply for CPT during their studies without interruption. To utilize CPT, students need to enroll in the BA500 Graduate Management Externship Course (0 credits) every semester. CPT authorization needs to be renewed annually.

Day 1 CPT at Campbellsville University

Day 1 CPT Class Requirement

Campbellsville University's graduate program is divided into three semesters in a year: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each semester is further divided into two terms. The hybrid course lasts for 16 weeks (2 terms) and has an in-person session over one weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Students who fail to attend will lose their F1 student status.
